Mundelein is one of the oldest incorporated communities in our service area, renamed in 1924 for Cardinal George Mundelein of Chicago after the construction of the Saint Mary of the Lake Seminary on its western edge. The residential streets that grew up around the seminary in the 1920s and 1930s contain Mundelein's oldest homes - Colonial Revival bungalows and brick cottages that are now a century old. Post-war development then layered ranches and split-levels across the rest of the village through the 1960s and 1970s, creating a genuinely wide housing range just 3 miles from our Libertyville office.

Mundelein's age range is what makes it different from most of our Lake County service area. The village has pre-war homes that need lime mortar expertise, post-war homes entering their second maintenance cycle, and 1980s-1990s construction approaching its first. No other community we serve so close to our office has this full span. That range means the diagnostic work matters more here - the wrong mortar choice on a 1927 Colonial Revival causes irreversible brick damage, while the right approach on a 1968 ranch extends a well-built home for another generation. Our proximity (6 minutes from our office) means we can respond faster, follow up more easily, and build the kind of ongoing relationship that multi-generational homes require.
